United States President Donald Trump spoke to journalists about the conflict between Israel and Iran on Wednesday (18). Asked about the statement of the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatola Ali Khamenei, that Iran will not surrender, Trump responded to CNN In the White House: “Good luck”.
Then the US president said that his patience with Iran has already run out: “She is over – which is why we are doing what we are doing.”
Speech happens amid a climb of conflict in the Middle East, with Trump using US military resources to attack Iranian nuclear facilities. The latest statements of the US president indicate discouragement with the idea of diplomatic solution to end Tehran’s growing conflict with Israel.
Still, the president indicated that “nothing is too late” when it comes to a diplomatic solution.
Trump also said he talked daily with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, praising his colleague.
Exchange of attacks between Iran and Israel
It began on Friday (13) at dawn at the local time, when the Israeli government launched an offensive directed to the center of the Iranian nuclear program and the country’s high military leaders.
Tehran began retaliation shortly thereafter, increasing the fears of a broader conflict in the Middle East.
In all, adding the two countries, more than 200 people have died since the beginning of the exchange of attacks.
Israel’s defense forces say that the attacks aim to prevent the development of the Iran’s nuclear program, which they have as a threat to Israeli existence.
