Security forces found a clandestine tunnel in the border town of, in the northwest of the country, which connects to the American town of San Diego, authorities said on Wednesday (18). These underground passages are often used by criminals for trafficking in people and drugs along the border of approximately 3,100 km between both countries. The 350 -meter long tunnel was located by soldiers and police inside a residence, where “several doses of methamphetamine were also found,” the Federal Security Secretariat said in a statement.
The operation was performed “in coordination” with US officials, Laureano Carrillo, Baja California State Security Secretary, told reporters. In January, security forces from both countries found a clandestine tunnel that connected the Mexican Ciudad Juárez (North) with El Paso, Texas. The Mexican government has multiplied drug arrests and seizures amid the threats of US President Donald Trump from imposing fees on Mexico on the grounds that the neighboring country allows for the entry of irregular drugs and migrants to its territory.
