The City Hall denies that the benefit to reimburse up to R $ 22,000 prosecutors from the municipality who purchase electronics is “luxury”.

Nicknamed “voucher”, the benefit allows prosecutors to be able to ask for reimbursement to up to 41 types of electronics as long as they stay in office for two years. The aid was contested in court by the state deputy (new).

To the 4th Public Finance Court of the Capital, the municipal prosecutor William Alexandre Calado justified that “technology items are currently paramount tools for the exercise of the attorney’s profession” and that the public budget “is not able to provide each civil servant updated equipment”.

“The total amount expected for reimbursement is R $ 22 thousand reais, available in three years, which represents the amount of R $ 611 per month, which removes any allegation of exorbitance or ‘luxury’,” he wrote.

Calado added that the reimbursement “is clearly no remuneration, but indemnity.”

Currently, the lowest of a municipal prosecutor, according to the Transparency Portal, is $ 44,000, not to mention the hangers. The value is higher than the mayor’s salary, $ 38,000. In addition, municipal prosecutors can also act in private law.

UOL report that revealed the assistance cites that one of the reimbursement requests was made by the Secretary of the Management Finance (), Luis Arellano, who is a career prosecutor. This year alone, he received $ 22,000 reimbursement for buying a MacBook Air notebook, an iPhone 15 and an adapter.

In the letter sent to court, the city argues that the benefit is funded by attorney’s fees and, therefore, there is no injury to public assets. Deputy Leonardo Siqueira, however, claims to be “resources from public causes”.

“It is noteworthy that these equipment is not owned by the state, are for the proper benefit of the prosecutor, that if eventually disconnect from the agency, will remain in possession of the iPhone, MacBook, and Mouse ‘Gamer’ purchased, “says Siqueira in the action.

The deputy also argued that the aid, if added to the other subsidies received by the prosecutors, exceed the constitutional ceiling, related to the salary of a Federal Supreme Court Minister (), set R $ 46,300.
