World Forum Coorganized by 50 ethnic groups from the southern and northern Americas will be held in Spain in September next year

From September 9 to 11, 2026, Girona (one hour from Barcelona) will be the scene of the 1st Ayahuasca World Forum, which promises to be one of the most symbolic and necessary meetings of our time. The announcement was made during the Psychedelic Science Conference, which is held this week in Denver, USA. THE Poder360 Accompanying from Colorado the most relevant discussions about science, economy and psychedelic culture.

The meeting scheduled for next year is the result of the collaboration between the Yorenka Tasorenti Institute and the International Center for Ethnobotanical Education, Research and Service), and marks a historic turn. For the first time, a global space for discussion about Ayahuasca will be coorganized by indigenous leaders, with real decision -making power, not only advisory, bringing together more than 50 ethnicities that are associated for the event.

This forum is not born out of nowhere. It is the natural unfolding of 5 editions of the Ayahuasca Indigenous Conference and 3 of World Ayahuasca Conference. But by uniting these 2 worlds, that of the original peoples and that of international science and policies, the event announces something new, a dialogical process caused by discussions between spiritual leaders of indigenous communities and entrepreneurs in the psychedelic sector – the opportunity to be interesting for the interaction and exchange of ideas between both universes.

Other Natural Medicines on the agenda

Girona was not chosen by chance. In situating the event outside the Amazon, indigenous leaders seek to resignify historical colonial routes and reach a broader audience, especially formulators of public policies, academics and institutional actors in Europe. It is a strategic choice that bets on visibility as a protective tool, the better known it is, the less it can be violated.

There will be no ceremonies with the plant or medicine consumption during the meeting.

The proposal is a high level, educational and political dialogue, with Ayahuasca as a convergence point. But it will not be just about the plant. The conversation extends to other sacred biocultures, such as Peiote, Iboga, BUFO, Jurema and Mushrooms, whose guardians face similar challenges, criminalization, cultural appropriation, biomedicalization and marginalization of their knowledge. A space will be dedicated to meeting these cosmologies and the collective defense of their biocultural rights.

The structure of the event mirrors this commitment. No centralized curatorships or unilateral decisions, all programming is being built by consensus with CLEA (Indigenous Spiritual Leadership Council).

Now, science listens

The themes are diverse, but revolve around clear axes, such as sovereignty, regulation, justice, collaborative research, combat neo -extractivism and promotion of intercultural governance. Among the forum’s concrete objectives is the presentation of a community regulatory framework, built collectively and based on experiences lived with the substance. The organization warns that academic researchers are welcome, but should be prepared to listen, not just talk.

There will also be room for policy formulators, lawyers and law professionals. In a global context of growing interest (and confusion) about the use of sacred, regulatory plants is necessary, but how to do so without violating traditional contexts? This is one of the questions that the Forum proposes to discuss.

In times when spirituality becomes commodity and traditional knowledge is swallowed by the market, the Ayahuasca World Forum arrives as a counter -control, showing an interesting position of the original peoples who claim to be considered in the process of expanding global consciousness over ayahuasca.
