The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced, on Friday (20), the postponement of the Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers.
The events would take place next week in Jordan. Amid the climb of the air conflict between Iran and Israel, the competition was transferred to the Qatar and rescheduled to the period from 7 to 19 July.
Initially, the preliminary clashes of Group A-involving the selections of Jordan, Iran, Lebanon, Bhutan and Singapore-were scheduled to begin on Monday (24) and ride until July 5. The new places and times of the matches will still be released by AFC.
The Singapore Football Association had already anticipated the possibility of postponement, citing “the current situation in the region and logistics concerns” shared by several national federations.
Meanwhile, the qualifiers in other groups are starting with starting to Monday. The official draw of the tournament will be held on July 29. The final phase of the Women’s Asian Cup, with 12 teams, will be played in Australia in March 2026.
The postponement occurs amid increased tensions in the Middle East. Israel launched attacks on Iran last week, justifying the action as an attempt to prevent the development of nuclear weapons. Tehran responded with an offensive of missiles and drones. In turn, he denies war intentions and states that his nuclear program has peaceful purposes.
