The meeting took place in Geneva, Switzerland, and was attended by the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abbas Aragchi. “There is no definitive solution to the Iranian nuclear problem by the military,” French minister Jean Noël Barrot said. German Chancellor Johann Wadephul said he believed Tehran demonstrates “fundamental disposition” to maintain dialogue.
After the meeting, Aragchi stated that Iran is willing to consider returning to diplomacy, provided the Israeli attacks cease. “We are favorable to continue discussions with E3 and the European Union,” he said, referring to the group formed by Germany, France and the United Kingdom.
The diplomatic effort occurs amid the escalation of the conflict between Iran and Israel, which enters its second week. Europeans seek to avoid worsening the crisis and reopening the way for negotiations that may contain the advance of the Iranian nuclear program.
