Iran informed about the detention of a European citizen for suspicion of spying in sensitive places.

Iranian authorities detained a European country citizen for suspicion of spying, the media said on Friday. TASR writes about this based on AFP report.

“A European citizen who tried to spy on the sensitive areas of the country was detained in the southwest of Iran,” the news agency said without giving the nationality of the suspicious or accurate detention date.

According to the agency, a man in the country was reportedly as a tourist at the time of Israeli attacks from 13 June, which escalated the conflict between the two countries.

Tehran regularly informs about the detention of persons suspected of spying, and has also been executed in recent weeks. On Thursday, the police announced the detention of 24 people accused of spying for Israel and attempts to damage the international image of the country.

Detention of foreigners

There are currently several citizens or holders of dual citizenship from European countries in Iranian prisons. Several Western governments blame Tehran that it retains foreigners as a means of coercion to negotiate the release of Iranians detained in the West, recalls AFP.
