Russian president, Vladimir Putin, said Thursday that “All Ukraine is ours”, arguing that Russians and Ukrainians form, in their opinion, a single people.
“I have already said it many times, I consider that the Russian and Ukrainian peoples are the same town. In that sense, all Ukraine is ours,” he said during his speech at the Plenary of the International Economic Forum of St. Petersburg, an event broadcast live on state television.
He denies that he would like to act as a mediator in the Middle East
At another point in his speech, the Russian leader referred to the conflict between Israel and Iran, clarifying that Moscow does not intend to act as a mediator, but that “Simply propose ideas” For the arrangement of the situation. “I would like to emphasize that we are not looking for any mediation, we simply propose ideas. And if they are attractive to both countries, we will be glad,” said the president.
Putin explained that Russia has presented its vision of the arrangement to both parties and maintains contacts with both Israel and its “Iranian friends”. “Our proposals are currently being studied. We maintain contacts with our Iranian friends almost daily, so we will see,” he added.
These statements come after the US President Donald Trump rejected Russian mediation in the conflict during his last telephone conversation with Putin. In addition, the Russian Foreign Ministry described as “cynical” the attempts to justify Israeli attacks against Iran, which began a week ago, and warned the United States not to intervene militarily, warning about “Unpredictable consequences”.
