With more than 4,000 associated producers, including 120 Portuguese, the organization of producers specializing in avocado and mango, troops, opened its new facilities in Tavira this Wednesday. The event was attended by several government authorities, institutional representatives and strategic partners of the agri -food sector.
With a total investment of more than nine million euros, the expansion of the new Trop facilities in Tavira will allow the Portuguese branch to calibrate and pack fruit, making the warehoused algarve in a strategic location. So far, the Tavira unit has functioned only as a point of reception of the fruit of national producers, and then it is necessary to send to the Malaga Production Center (Spain) for processing.

This new center, with a total area of 7,195 m², results from the expansion started in 2020. The new infrastructure allows to complete the logistical and productive cycle in the national territory, reinforcing the efficiency, sustainability and competitiveness of the Portuguese fruit sector.
The main objective of these facilities is to be close to Portuguese farmers, ensuring their support at all stages of their production cycle. It is intended to offer an integral model that covers production, organization and negotiation, focusing on quality, sustainability and technological innovation, ensuring a fair marketing and fruit of excellence with the consumer.

The Tavira Unit also has a crucial role in supporting local producers, offering specialized technical services, agronomic monitoring, continuous training and financial support.
With this bet, Trops provides for the creation of 25 new jobs, joining the current five, in a total of 30 employees.

It is also a way to directly support local producers and generate employment in the region, contributing to the economic and social development of Tavira and the leventy Algarve,” says Vítor Luque, director general of Trops.
In the most recent campaign, Portuguese production associated with Trops surpassed the 11 million kilos of avocado, representing about 40% of the organization’s total production on the Iberian Peninsula. This activity has generated more than 30 million euros in turnover, indicator of the economic impact of Trops in the south of the country. Currently, the organization has over 1,000 hectares of avocado production in Portuguese territory.
