Former President Jair Bolsonaro reported a new discomfort on Friday, 20, during an event in Goiás. The condition, according to an expert, is an expected result of the numerous interventions in the former president’s gut.
Bolsonaro spoke when he ended up burning and apologized to the audience. “Sorry here because I’m very bad. I vomit 10 times a day, maybe,” he said.
According to the head of cancer surgery at the Specialized Center for Oncology at the German Hospital Oswaldo Cruz, Raphael di Paula, the symptoms reported by the former president are common in patients who undergo surgery in the intestinal tract.

In April, Bolsonaro underwent exploiting laparotomy, a procedure to investigate and treat an intestinal obstruction caused by adhesions. The adhesions, such as scars that form on the outer wall of the intestine, may eventually “stick” pieces of the organ and generate obstructions.
“When there are multiple intestinal interventions in patients who have greater propensity to have adherent processes, these symptoms may occur. It may start with nausea, or the person eats and already has a sense of fullness quickly, may have more vomiting, colic,” explains Di Paula.
The doctor states that adhesions hinder the intestine’s peristaltic movements, which are contractions that make the food bolus move along the digestive system and are eliminated as feces. When hindering this cycle, symptoms such as those reported by Bolsonaro are common.

Since he was stabbed during the 2018 elections, Bolsonaro has undergone six surgeries in the abdominal cavity. The frequency of these interventions can also cause new adhesions.
“Every time they move they can increase adhesions, but it doesn’t mean they can make symptoms worse. Over time, it may even improve,” says the doctor, with the caveat that the reverse can also happen. “Time will say.”

This Friday, 20, after reporting the malaise during an event in Goiânia, Bolsonaro returned to Brasilia. The information was confirmed through a statement published on the social networks of the mayor of Anápolis, Márcio Corrêa (PL), a city where Bolsonaro had expected participation.
