The microwave is often a rescuer. Especially when we are hungry and we have little time. Put the plate, press the button and have a hot meal after a minute. But, unfortunately, not everything is suitable for heating in this way. Some products may spill, others will become dangerous health. See what is better not to put in the microwave. Some foods may surprise you.

Microwave

For many, the microwave oven is the basic appliance in the kitchen. It is especially useful when you need to eat something quickly and you don’t have time to cook. Just a few minutes and you’re done – the dinner from the previous day, the finished meal from the store or the morning coffee are warm again. In addition, the control is simple and intuitive, so it is easy to handle children or older people. You can heat a lot of things in the microwave. In the stores you will find a number of ready -made meals that are made to heat in the microwave. However, it should be borne in mind that there are also products and their packaging, which should not be inserted into the microwave oven. They can damage your health, spoil the taste of the food or damage the oven itself.

What definitely must not put in the microwave?

It should be remembered that the microwave oven works differently than a conventional oven. Not everything that looks safe is really safe. Here’s a list of things you shouldn’t give to it:

  • plastic containers and cutlery – Unless they are marked with a special label that they are “suitable for microwave”. Otherwise, harmful substances may be melted and released.
  • Polymer foam – When the heat is used, it loses its shape and releases toxins.
  • Metal containers and cutlery – There is a risk of spark and short circuit.
  • Aluminum foil – It must not be used in the microwave!
  • Paper pockets and napkins – They can ignite.
  • Closed food containers – The risk of explosion, because steam has no way to escape.

Do you find it self -evident? Not for everyone.

What foods should not be heated in a microwave?

It’s not just about packaging. The content of the plate itself can also be problematic. Some foods lose taste and nutritional value. Others may become dangerous – Especially if they were incorrectly stored. What should you be careful about?

  • Eggs in the shell – This is the most common mistake. The egg heated quite explodes because the steam has no way to escape. The result? A mess in the oven or, worse, burns.
  • Spherical peppers – Chilli, Jalapeño, Habanero – their heating in the microwave is like a play with a pepper spray. High temperature releases capsaicin, which rises into the air. After opening the microwave, a pungent gas will hit you to yeast your eyes and throat.
  • Milk for children – Many parents use a microwave oven to quickly heat the bottle. The problem? The microwave heats unevenly. One part of the liquid may be cold, the other part of the boiling. This may end in the baby’s burns.
  • Potatoes wrapped in foil – You already know the foil – it is not suitable for a microwave. But even without it, potatoes can explode if too much steam accumulates. Especially if they were previously firmly packed.
  • Rice – Many do not know that Bacillus cereus can hide in rice. If it is poorly stored and then just “flew” the microwave, microorganisms will not get rid of. You could pay for it stomach pain or worse.
  • Spinach, beetroot, celery – This vegetable contains nitrates. Dangerous chemicals can be formed when heated in the microwave oven, which may be harmful to the body. Especially in children and the elderly.
  • Mushrooms – Mushrooms are delicate. They are badly tolerate heating, and even worse in the microwave. Their components may decompose and change into substances that burden the stomach. It is better to eat them immediately after cooking.

Just a few minutes enough to make your microwave brilliantly clean again. No scrubbing, just a pleasant smell.
