The CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) announced on Friday (20) Brazil’s candidacy to receive the Club World Cup in 2029.
In a statement, the entity stated that the country showed interest in receiving the competition during a meeting of its president, Samir Xaud, with the president of FIFA (International Football Federation), Gianni Infantino, in the United States.
“It all started with a presentation conversation. I talked about my goals at the head of the CBF and said we want to be closer to FIFA,” said Xaud, who is in the United States following the 2025 edition of the Club World Cup. “I praised the event and the level of Brazilian clubs and finally made the country available to host the next World Cup.”
According to the president of the CBF, the idea was well received.
“President Gianni Infantino was very happy, said it is totally possible. Now let’s work to work. It will be a great goal,” he concluded.
The Club World Cup is FIFA’s new football competition, an expanded and quadrennial version of the old club world. The competition is in its first edition in the United States, with the participation of 32 teams.
