Her basketball federation announced the launch of procedures for changing her official name, restoring the term “Macedonian” to her name.
Specifically, as stated in today’s announcement of this federation, the new president of the Federation, Tom Glavchev, during a recent meeting of the Board of Directors proposed the renaming of the Federation either to a “Macedonian Basketball Federation” or a “National Basketball Federation”.
The proposal was accepted by positive comments from the present members of the Board of Directors, who unanimously agreed to launch the process of changing the name to a “Macedonian Federation of Basketball”, thereby raising questions about the federation’s compliance with the terms of the Prespa Agreement.
The basketball federation was one of the first sports federations in the country to adapt to the Prespa Agreement, abandoning the previous name “Macedonian Basketball Federation” and adopting the official name “Basketball Federation of North Macedonia”.
This renamed the presidency of Pero Adic, one of the most famous basketball players in the history of the country, who has served as president of the Federation in previous years.
In April 2025, Adic was replaced by Tom Glavchev, who is now promoting the reinstatement of the previous name of the Federation.
It is noted that several other sports federations in the country, such as the “Macedonian Football Federation” and the “Macedonian Handball Federation”, have never renamed the Prespa Agreement and continue to use the term “Macedonia” without the “Macedonian”.
