Two days after the escape of nine prisoners from the Rio Branco Penitentiary Complex, which occurred on the morning of last Thursday (19), none of the fugitives was located until this Saturday (21). The information was confirmed by the advice of the Acre Penitentiary Administration Institute (IAPEN), which said the searches are intensified, with the support of the Penal Police and other security forces, including the use of aircraft.

The escape took place around 6am in Pavilion P, in the provisional collection wing. Since then, the names of the nine detainees Arthur Carvalho Gomes, Carlos Vitor de Castro Cardoso, Davi Castro de Souza, Francisco Guimarães Santana, Geovane Costa Almeida, Isaquiel Martins de Souza, Johnatan Silva Magalhães, Natanael do Nascimento Salgueiro and Ozeias Paulo Germana Ferreira were released to assist in the searches.

On Thursday, Iapen President Marcos Frank Costa said in a statement that all efforts are being concentrated on the recapture of fugitives. This Saturday, the agency stressed that the operations continue and new information will be released as soon as there is advances.

Who are the detainees?
One of the best known names on the list is Arthur Carvalho Gomes, sentenced to 69 years in prison. He was one of those involved in the violent invasion of the People’s City Housing Estate in April 2021, when cars were stolen, seven people were shot dead and a motoboy was executed.
Another fugitive, Francisco Guimarães Santana, known as “Batore”, is serving 18 and 9 months for the murder of Antonio Irismar da Silva, which took place in December 2022 in the Six of August neighborhood.
Geovane Costa Almeida, who also fled, had already been arrested in Bolivia for illegal possession of firearms. After serving time in the neighboring country, he was deported back to Brazil in October 2023.
Criminals with direct involvement with factions include Johnatan Silva Magalhães, arrested in February 2023 during a DCORE operation. According to investigations, he held leadership position within a criminal organization acting in Acre.
Isaquiel Martins de Souza is another fugitive with connection with organized crime. He responds to the lawsuit by joining criminal faction, but has not yet been tried.
Carlos Vitor de Castro Cardoso and Davi Castro de Souza are also accused of involvement in trafficking and factional command, but the two are still awaiting trial. David was even arrested in May 2023, while preparing to execute rivals in the city of the people.
Natanael do Nascimento Salgueiro was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for theft. He and his cronies attacked employees of a company during a goods delivery in August 2022.
The last on the list, Ozeias Paulo Germana Ferreira, has an extensive history of crimes. He was sentenced for over 11 years for invading the home of a businessman and a Military Police Warrant Officer. Last year, he received a new 16 -year prison sentence for participation in a gang specializing in truck theft in Acre, bound for Bolivia. According to police, Ozeias was part of the group known as the “maintains” gang.
Authorities are still looking for the fugitives, considered extremely dangerous.
