The US attacks that targeted Iran’s nuclear facilities involved submarines launching Tomahawk missiles and B-2 bombers firing 14 antibunker bombs, the Pentagon said in his first public statement about the operation.

The operation-nicknamed “Midnight Hammer”-featured the sending of B-2 stealing bombers from the Whiteman Air Base in Missouri, Air Force General Dan Caine, president of the joint staff, said at a news conference on Sunday morning. He said there are no reports that US forces have been the target of attacks.

According to Caine, B-2 bombers took off early Saturday morning, and later launched Bunker Buster bombs, or Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP), which had never been used in combat before. Another group of aircraft flew west – and whose flight was widely publicized and captured by flight tracking data – were baits designed to keep the surprise tactical, he said.

“This is a plan that took months and weeks of positioning and preparation, so we could be ready when the US President called,” said Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. “It took a lot of precision. It involved disorientation and the highest operational safety.”

According to the authorities, 75 accurate guided weapons were used and the operation involved about 125 aircraft. According to Caine, it will take time to evaluate the damage of the battle, but “all three places have suffered extremely serious damage and destruction.”

The flights to reach the targets were the longest second in B-2 operational history, according to Hegseth. The longest was a 40 -hour round trip in October 2001 in the early stages of the Afghanistan war.
