Bird droppings on the body. Why are they harmful?
Bird droppings in the form of “surprises” left on cars are a common problem that not only drivers, but also painters have to face. Let’s start from scratch – Can bird droppings damage the body? The answer is – they can seriously. Why? Well, they are characterized by high acidity, which in combination with the content of enzymes and gravel can lead to considerable damage to the body. First of all, bird droppings are a problem, which will not be removed quickly. Why? The longer they stay on the body, especially on a hot day, the greater the chance that as a result of the chemically reaction they will “bite” in the clar, leaving, for example, a permanent trace or discoloration on the varnish.
The problem is more serious when we leave the car in an unfortunate place where birds often live, e.g. pigeons. Removing one or two spots is not problematic, but worse, when we are dealing with greater dirt by leaving the car in one place for a long time (especially on hot days, when the “surprises” dry quickly).
How to remove bird droppings from varnish?
Many car owners ask themselves this question. The matter is not so simple, especially if the bird droppings remained on the varnish for a long time. . Remember not to wipe bird droppings “dry” – this can lead to damage to the varnish, especially if we are also dealing with sand.
What means to use to clean the varnish from bird droppings? First of all, dedicated products are recommended, especially those for removing bird droppings or insects, used in retailing. They usually have the form of a preparation, which we spray the surface, and after waiting for the moment we start removing dirt with a microfiber cloth. It is worth noting that these preparations are not expensive, it is often an expense of several dozen zlotys.
Bird droppings damaged the varnish. What to do?
Here the problem is much more serious. If the varnish has already been damaged, not much can be done, and we can still worsen the matter, especially if we do not have the right knowledge. In the case of gentle discoloration or lightweight, light -abrasive pastes will help (it is worth going to a specialist).
Worse, if we are dealing with visible and permanent damage to the varnish. Then you have to rely on machine polishing (possibly manual). Here, we also recommend contact with a professional, e.g. in a detailing studio. We are then a guarantee that we will not worsen the matter ourselves. If the damage reaches the base layer, then, apart from makeshift activities, we only have to paint the element, which can be very expensive.
How to protect the car against bird droppings?
Always be preventive. What can help? Typical preventive measures include, for example, waxing of the car. The thin protective layer created at the time will work like a shield. Depending on the wax, they are characterized by durability up to several months. You can also use a sealant. They are often applied in spray, and their durability is from about three to six months.
Ceramic coatings are recommended for the ambitious. This is the best, but also the most expensive form of protection. We are dealing here with a chemical barrier to acids and high durability up to several years. These coatings are applied by specialists in workshops, especially in detailing studies.
