Iranian authorities are minimizing the impact of US attacks on their nuclear facilities, particularly in the mountain -buried Fordow installation, in a clear contrast to the allegations of US President Donald Trump that the attack “obliterate” them.
Manan Raeisi, an Iranian parliamentarian who represents Qom – the sacred city near the nuclear facility of Fordow – said on Sunday morning (22) that the attack was “quite superficial” and did not seriously damage the installation.
“Based on accurate information, I can say that, unlike the allegations of the acting president of the United States, the nuclear facility of Fordow was not seriously damaged. Most affected areas were above ground and can be fully restored,” Raeisi said, according to the government -affiliated farming agency.
“I can say with full confidence that any components that could represent a danger to public security had already been removed earlier and, fortunately, no nuclear radiation has been detected,” he said.
No death was reported in Fordow, he added.
A face -to -Fordow correspondent said he was witnessing the air defenses in the early hours of Sunday morning. At one point, he saw a fire and heard explosions – but the flames were not high and were extinguished within minutes, he said.
Presenters of Iranian state TV also claimed, without evidence, that the attacks have damaged only the Fordow input and exit tunnels, not the installation themselves.
In addition to Fordow, the US also attacked Natanz and Isfahan’s nuclear facilities.
In a White House speech on Saturday night, Trump stated that the attacks were a “spectacular military success” and that the three targets were “complete and totally destroyed.”
Raeisi, the Iranian parliamentarian, said Iran sees this attack as “a direct entrance to the United States in this war” and that Iran will now determine how to respond to “this blatant act of foolishness.”
