Israel has accused Iranian revolutionary guard by thwarting the attack on Cyprus. He claims that they threatened Israeli citizens, and in the case of the detainee Brit with ties to Iran.
Israel announced on Saturday that he managed to thwart an attack on his citizens in Cyprus in cooperation with the local authorities. It was tried by Iranian elite revolutionary guard, says Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, quoted by AFP.
In Cyprus, thousands of people have gathered in recent days who are either waiting for repatriation to Israel, or have left this country for tensions in the Middle East. “Thanks to the activities of the Cyprus security authorities in cooperation with Israeli security services, the terrorist attack was thwarted,” Saar wrote on the X Network.
The Cyprus police reported on Saturday about the detention of a person for suspicions of spying and terrorism. The British Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it is a Britain citizen.
The man was supposed to plan a terrorist attack
They detained the man on Friday based on information that he was planning an immediate terrorist attack, Cyprus newspaper Philenews said. According to this medium, he was supposed to be Azerbaijan, and he came to Cyprus to be a tourist. He allegedly had ties to Iranian operators and lived in the suburbs of Limassol. It was observed with a long lens camera near Akrotiri. In his apartment they found three mobiles, computers and other devices.
According to AFP, it is not clear whether its detention is related to the alleged conspiracy in order to attack the Israelis in Cyprus, which Saar talked about. The Cyprus police refused to provide more detailed information about the case.
Israel has long blamed Iran for organizing and funding attacks against Israeli and Jewish goals around the world, either directly or through the militant groups it supports, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon.
