Specialist Alert: You should press this button on the electrical board every month for your safety

The domestic electrical staff, Despite its crucial importance, It usually goes unnoticed by most residents. It is common to remember this element only when an electrical emergency arises, which can endanger the safety of the residence and its occupants.

According to Manuel Contreras, president of the Autonomous Association of Electric Installers and Granada Telecommunications in Spain, this careless practice can be dangerous.

In an interview with the Ideal Magazine, Contreras underlines the importance of the electrical staff, referring to it as the most crucial element of an electrical installation. The expert warns of the need for regular maintenance, explaining that, without proper attention, the risks of short circuits, overvoltages and even fires increase.

The electrical framework: the first protection barrier

The main function of the electrical staff is to protect against “indirect contacts”, situations in which a person can receive an electrical discharge through a conductive surface, such as a poor isolation machine. In addition, it protects against breakdowns caused by overvoltages or short circuits.

However, as Contreras explained to, many are unaware that the electrical staff needs periodic maintenance to ensure proper functioning and avoid damage to devices and potential safety risks.

“If there is any errors and the differentials do not jump, it means that our installation is not protected, and this represents a significant risk,” explains the expert.

Contains regrets that, in many cases, the electrical condition is neglected for months or even years after the construction or renewal of the house, a practice that increases the risk of system failures.

Signs that indicate problems in the electrical staff

There are common signs that may indicate problems with the electrical staff and require immediate attention. Some of the symptoms include constantly flashing lights, smelling burnt near the frame or outlets, unusual noises from the panel and frequently disarmed circuit breakers.

When detecting any of these signs, it is essential to contact a qualified electrician to solve the problem before the situation gets worse.

We recommend:

A simple and essential security test

Contreras recommends that the electrical board be inspected by a technician at least once a year to guarantee your condition. However, it recognizes that many never perform this verification. For these cases, suggests a simple test that can be done at home, which, while not replacing professional inspection, helps to ensure that the picture is working properly.

The test consists of pressing the differential breaker test button monthly, usually identified with the letter “T”. This button simulates an electric failure, checking if the differential disarms properly. When pressing it, the circuit breaker must turn off automatically, interrupting the power supply. If you do not do so, it means that the system is not protecting the installation properly, endangering both the devices and the inhabitants of the house.

“It’s convenient to press this button once a month to check if everything is in order,” says Contreras. This simple test allows the owner to detect possible problems and, if necessary, seek professional assistance.

The importance of electrical safety

Contreras emphasizes that the lack of knowledge about the electrical condition is common and can have serious consequences.

Lack of regular maintenance may result in failures that compromise installation safety and increase the risk of accidents.

Performing this simple monthly test and maintaining professional professional inspections are practices that can help protect not only devices, but especially residents of the house, preventing potential accidents in case of failures in the electrical system.
