In the pools of the Vadaš swimming pool in Štúrovo and in the lake under the thermal complex, the presence of dangerous améb was confirmed. According to hygienists, these are two different types of these microorganisms, the portal says.
Akantaméba found in the waters in Štúrovo can cause infections of eyes, ears, skin and soft tissues. These microorganisms were present in eight out of 105 samples. The Public Health Authority of the Slovak Republic (ÚVZ SR) points out that they are particularly risky for people with weakened immunity.
“With regard to a possible corneal infection, they are particularly riskful for persons using contact lenses that are not advisable to use when bathing, as there is a risk of visual impairment and loss,” stated the ÚVZ SR.
The Office confirmed the presence of the Améba family Naegleria, known as a deadly meňavka that cost the life of an 11-year-old boy. The tear, also called Naegleria Fowleri, was found in pool water, sterile from pools and their equipment (such as gutters or filters), as well as in a sample of surface water from the lake in the swimming pool area.
The Office informed that they are still working at the National Reference Center for Hydrobiology at the ÚVZ SR to accurately identify the species, whether it is specifically about Naegleria Fowleri. Of the total of 105 samples taken, this genus Améb was confirmed in ten.
The checks at the swimming pool are related to With the death of an 11-year-old boy who infected the dangerous microorganism of Naegleria Fowleri.
