Remember the case
Edson Vandeira, 36, is a mountaineer, photographer and Brazilian guide. He has been missing since
May 29, when he began the climb of Nevado Artesonraju, a peak of 6,025 meters in Blanca, inside the Huascarán National Park in Peru, with two Peruvian mountaineers. They should have returned on June 1st.
Vandeira began the climb with the Peruvians Efraín Pretel Alonzo, from the city of Huari, and Jesús Huerta Picó, from Caraz. They studied together at the Center for High Mountain Studies (CEAM), where they took the aspirant course to the International Federation of Mountain Guide Associations. The trio intended to complete a technical route of ascension.
According to reports of colleagues of the mountaineers, the trio left at 1 pm on May 29 and should reach the summit of the mountain around 1am on June 1st. According to these mountaineers, at night were seen lights moving on the crest of the mountain, which suggests that the trio reached the summit, but may have had a problem during the descent. Artesonraju’s descent route requires four technical rapes.
Vandeira has already led groups in Brazil, Andes and Himalayan. He participated in nine expeditions to Antarctica, working there for about three months each year, as responsible for the safety of scientists on the field and managing the logistics of the camp.
