Juliana Marins, a 26-year-old Brazilian, is isolated in a hard-to-reach area of the Rinjani volcano in Indonesia since last Saturday, after falling about 300 meters during a solitary walk.
The young woman was located by tourists who, as they passed in the area, used a drone to find it. The images captured were eventually shared on social networks and allowed the family in Brazil to know what had happened.
Initially, the Indonesian authorities and the Brazilian Embassy in Jakarta reported that Juliana would have received groceries and warm clothing by the rescue team. However, the family denied this version, ensuring that so far no one has reached the young woman. “The ropes were not sufficiently length and the visibility on site is very small,” explained Mariana Marins, the victim’s sister. Mariana also warned that videos that circulate on social networks, claiming to show the rescue, were manipulated.
Searches were temporarily suspended on Sunday morning due to the worsening weather conditions, increasing the anguish of the family. Juliana’s father, in statements to TV Globo, criticized the lack of support from the Brazilian authorities: “She has been alone for over 36 hours and no one seems to care, besides family and friends.”
Juliana had been traveling through Asia since February and had already visited countries such as the Philippines, Vietname and Thailand. At the time of the accident, he was part of a group of five people with a local guide, but decided to stop by feeling exhausted. Since then, he has followed herself alone and eventually suffered the fall.
The situation continues to generate great concern and revolt on social networks, with appeals for authorities to accelerate rescue efforts.
