China ordered on Sunday (22), the immediate approval of a resolution of the UN Security Council that determines a ceasefire in the Middle East after the US air strikes against three Iranian nuclear facilities.

In a speech during the United Nations emergency meeting, Chinese ambassador Fu Cong stated that the council cannot remain inert in the face of military climb and classified bombing as a serious violation of international law and sovereignty.

“We asked for immediate approval of the resolution presented by China, Russia and Pakistan,” said Fu. According to him, the text requires the unconditional ceasefire, civil protection, respect for the UN letter and the return to dialogue and diplomatic negotiation.

The proposal was formally filed with the Security Council on Saturday night, a few hours after the confirmation of US attacks against the facilities of Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.

Fu said the facilities affected were under supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (AIEA) and criticized the impact of the offensive on the global weapon control regime. “The attacks gave a hard blow to the international regime of nuclear non -proliferation,” he said.

The ambassador stressed that Washington’s actions violate the basic principles of the UN. “China strongly condemns US attacks on Iran. They violate the UN letter, international law and sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Iran.”

Beijing also expressed concern about increasing civil victims and demanded that all parties involved respect international humanitarian law. “The biggest victims of any conflict are innocent people,” Fu said.

He said civilians and their facilities cannot become targets of military operations and asked the countries involved to make all efforts to avoid damage to the population.

The Chinese representative blamed Israel for the initial escalation of the crisis and said the situation may leave control if there is no quick response. “The parties involved in the conflict, especially Israel, should reach an immediate ceasefire to avoid a spiral climb,” he said. “The Security Council has the main responsibility to maintain international peace and security. It cannot be inert in the face of a major crisis.”
