The explosion shocked the church of St. Elias in Duilaa, Damascus in. The Syrian interior ministry said the suicide bomber was a member of the Islamic State.
“He entered the church, opened fire and then triggered the belt with explosives he was wearing,” the ministry added in a statement. There is information on 20 dead so far, and there are 52 injured. Indeed, many of them are in critical condition.
At the same time correspondents of the AFP news agency at the site said the church had been damaged.
