Ábalos arrives at the Supreme to declare before the judge for the alleged bites
José Luis Ábalos is already in the Supreme Court. Quoted to declare as investigated at 10.00, the former Minister of Transport has reached 9.28 accompanied by his lawyer and without stopping before the numerous media waiting for the high court’s posts. It is the third time that Ábalos goes to the Supreme to declare as investigated for the supposed corrupt plot that he allegedly had his epicenter in the ministry he directed.
On this occasion, Judge Leopoldo Puente has called Ábalos and who was his advisor, Koldo García, after the report of the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard that uncovered the alleged involvement of the already former secretary of Organization of the PSOE, Santos Cerdán, in the case of public works contracts and the payment of bites in favor of former transport and PSOE positions.
This Monday’s statement occurs after, on Sunday afternoon, Ábalos and García met in the lawyer of the first to put his defense strategy in common, but the appointment ended without a defined plan, so it is not clear if the former minister will choose to answer the questions they ask during the interrogation, as he had announced last week, or if he will welcome his right not to declare. Garcia, meanwhile, has asked this Monday to suspend his statement, scheduled at 12.00. His lawyer, in a letter filed in the high court, alleges that he took charge of the defense of Ábalos last week and has not had time to prepare the cause.
