Monteiro commented on the current global scenario of the sector. He said the company carefully follows the impacts of tension on Ormuz Strait, a strategic route for oil transportation in the Middle East.

Yesterday (22.jun.2025), the Parliament of Iran closing the main product export route from the Persian Gulf countries and responsible for delivery of 20% to 30% of the global demand of commodity. Prio

“It can have a recommodation [de custos], Yes. It’s hard to need, it’s very recent ”, said Monteiro.

The president of Prio stated that the focus of the company is to expand production based on efficiency gains and return on investment. “Our portfolio was structured with this goal”, he said. According to him, the strategy includes operating only in maritime fields (something common in Brazil), with actives close to each other, which allows synergies and cost reduction. The company uses its own production units, such as ships.

Despite geopolitical uncertainties, Monteiro said that a prio maintains business decisions centered on productivity and operational efficiency.

Historic

A prio, previously known as the PetroRio, was founded at an adverse moment for the oil sector, in a scenario of economic recession in Brazil and with the price of a barrel falling in the international market.

Initially, the company had a modest daily production of about 6,000 barrels. The turning point was the purchase of the Octopus Field, in the Campos Basin, previously operated by (British Petroleum) in partnership with the logistics company, which at the time began its departure from the energy sector.

Maersk, then minority partner, even paid to leave the project because he did not believe the return potential. “They thought the field was going to give a loss of $ 100 million”said Nelson Queiroz, Chairman da Prio.

The field has become the basis for the company’s growth, which continued to fold its production over the years.

“We started with 6,000 barrels per day of production, a little thing. 1 year ago, we produced a little less than 100,000 barrels a day. With some projects in view, today we have Wahoo, which still depends on the IBAMA (Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources) […] And we have a path already in the clear intention to reach more than 200 thousand barrels a day next year ”, declared Monteiro.
