Rui Rocha in campaign for the liberal initiative
Less than a month after resigning from national leadership, Rui Rocha arrives in Braga, where he is natural and where he has been a list head in the legislatures. He has already traveled the city streets and exchanged words with some citizens.

The announcement of the candidacy comes about three weeks after Rui Rocha from the IL leadership on May 31, due to the results of the legislative elections, which he considered insufficient.
In a short video in the account of Braga’s liberal initiative, Rui Rocha is coming from train to Braga, where he is natural and where he has been a list head in the legislatures, traveling to the city streets and exchanging words with some citizens.
“It’s great to be at home,” says Rui Rocha at the end of the video.
In the description of the video, the Il de Braga argues that “the time has come to change the course of the city.”
“With fresh ideas, luggage freedom and the right energy to put Braga to move. The change has arrived. It goes up on board,” he reads.
Rui Rocha was IL leader between 2023 and 2025 and is a deputy in the Assembly of the Republic since 2022, having always been elected as a head of the list by Braga’s electoral circle.
The liberal initiative has not yet chosen its new leader. So far, only Mariana Leitãocurrent head of the list by the Lisbon Electoral Circle, his candidacy for party leadership.
