Russian attacks on Kiev with drones and missiles at night left five dead and dozens injured, causing fires in residential areas and damaging the entry of a subway station that serves as an anti-aircraft shelter, Ukrainian authorities said on Monday (23).
“The Russian style remains the same – attack where there may be people,” said Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kiev Military Administration in the Telegram Message Application.
“Residential buildings, shelter exits – this is the Russian style,” he added. Russia did not comment on the attacks.
Both sides deny the target of civilians in the war that Russia began in February 2022, but thousands of civilians were killed in the conflict – the vast majority composed of Ukrainians.
At least four people were killed in the bustling Shevchenkivskyi district in Kiev, where the entire entry of a residential building was destroyed, said Ukraine Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko on Telegram.
“There are still people under the rubble,” said Klymenko.
The attack caused damage to six of the city’s 10 districts, including several apartment buildings, and injured at least 10 people, Klymenko said.
A 68 -year -old woman died and at least eight people were injured in the attack, which surrounds the Ukrainian capital, Governor Mykola Kalashnik said on Telegram.
Photos published by Ukraine’s state emergency service showed rescue teams driving people to a safe place from various buildings and flame structures in the dark. The service reported that a pregnant woman was among the rescued.
A departure from the subway station in the Sviatoshynskyi district in Kiev was also damaged, as well as a adjacent bus stop, authorities said.
The capital’s subway stations were used during the war like some of the city’s safest antibomba shelters.
Russia’s deadliest attack on Kiev, with hundreds of drones, killed 28 people and injured more than 150, with Ukrainian authorities saying that nearly 30 locations were hit during the multiple wave attack.
