Searches for Brazilian volcano in Indonesia are resumed

Itamaraty stated that rescue teams resumed on Sunday (22.Jun.2025) operations to locate 26 -year -old Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins, who fell during a trail to Volcão Mount Rinjani, Indonesia. The searches had been in the morning because of bad weather.

The publicist, born in Niterói (RJ), suffered the fall on Friday (20.jun.2025), at a point located approximately 300 meters from the main trail of the volcano, difficult to reach.

The activity was organized by a local agency in Indonesia, one of the destinations of the trip through Asia that Juliana began in late February.

According to Itamaraty, 2 employees of the Brazilian embassy in Jakarta follow the rescue efforts. Juliana’s family sought the diplomatic authority in the country to assist in the occurrence.

“Indonesian search and rescue agency teams just began the third day of the Brazilian tourist rescue effort in Mount Rinjani (3,726 meters high), a volcano located on Lombok Island, about 1,200 km away from Jacarta. According to information received by the team, the tourist would have fallen from a cliff that surrounds the track near the volcano crater.

Since triggered by the tourist’s family, the Brazilian Embassy in Jakarta has mobilized local authorities at the highest level, which allowed the rescue teams to the volcano area where the remote region was falling around four hours away from the nearest urban center. The Brazilian Ambassador in Jacarta personally contacted the international director of the Search and Rescue Agency and the director of the National Disaster Agency of Indonesia, and has received from local authorities reports about the progress of the work. Two embassy employees move today to the place to personally monitor the rescue efforts, which was difficult yesterday by adverse weather and visibility conditions.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the Brazilian Government, also began high level contacts with the Indonesian government to ask for reinforcements in the work of search in the Mount Rinjani crater. ”
