The Syrian authorities detained several suspects in connection with Sunday’s suicide attack in the Orthodox temple in Damascus, The Syrian Ministry of the Interior announced on Monday. According to the Minister of Interior Anása Chatab, an operation focused on cells connected to the Islamic State (IS) group, TASR writes, according to AFP report. In its statement, the ministry said that during a security operation near Damascus, “a few criminals involved in the attack” had detained.

In a suicidal attack by a terrorist in the Church of St. Elijah in Duwajla’A in Damascus, Sunday, on Sunday, according to the Ministry of Health, 25 people died and another 63 suffered injuries. According to Syrian officials, the attacker was one of the terrorist organization IS.

The attack in the temple was the first such attack in the Syrian capital since the overthrow of long -time President Bashar Assad Islamists, led by a group of contemporary temporary president.

A suicidal attack in Syria also condemned the international community, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who said that Turkey would not allow extremists to draw Syria back into chaos and instability. Ankara will continue to “support the struggle of the Syrian government against terrorism”.
