A 47-year-old man lost his life on the cycle route leading from Poltár to Rimavská Sobota on Sunday (22 6th). The cyclist suffered injuries to which he succumbed to the spot. TASR informed the spokeswoman of the Regional Directorate of the Police Force in Banská Bystrica Petra Kováčiková.
The tragic accident on the cycle route occurred on Sunday in the late evening. According to the police information so far, the event was likely to occur as a result of non -compliance with special provisions on cyclists.
“A forty -seven -year -old cyclist From the precisely unidentified reasons, it hit the right part of the handlebar into the barrier placed and interfering with the cycle route, resulting in its fall. After the impact, the bike was thrown into the ditch and a seriously injured cyclist remained on the road. The man suffered injuries that he succumbed to the rescuers on the spot, ” Kováčiková approached.
In connection with the accident, the police have initiated criminal prosecution for the offense of killing, and experts from the Road Transport and Forest Medical Department were added to the investigation. An autopsy was ordered, which will also be determined whether the cyclist was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
According to the findings so far, a poor man in the section had to drive without a protective helmet. Police call on cyclists to use the helmet at all times, even in places where it is not compulsory by law. “In the case of cycling, this is a very important protective element,” Kováčiková added.
