Eight people died and thirteen another injured last Saturday (21), in Praia Grande, southern Santa Catarina, when a passenger balloon caught fire and fell.
Initial information realizes that The fire would have started from the auxiliary torch used to light the main flame of the balloon. The indication was pointed out by the balloon pilot, one of the survivors, who told the story to the Civil Police.
According to the pilot, realizing the uncontrolled and obvious accident, he would have. He and twelve crew members managed to escape. A survivor also reported that the Fire Extinguisher failed at the time of the fire.
The decrease in weight would have caused the balloon to rise again with the eight victims who could not disembark.
This is the Third Balloon Accident in Brazil in less than a weekintensifying the debate on security in ballooning. Although Praia Grande is known as the “Brazilian Cappadocia” for the popularity of tourist balloon, with about 100 daily flights, the accident is considered rare in the region.
Post-accident
The teams of the Fire Department, with about 30 military personnel, and the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) provided help the victims. THE Balloon fell near a health unitbut no one on land was injured or hit.

Investigation
A Santa Catarina Civil Police established an inquirywhich should be completed within 30 days, with the main line of investigation pointing to the auxiliary torch.
The victims
Fatal victims already identified include an ophthalmologist (Andrei Gabriel de Melo, 34), an agronomist (Juliane Jacinta Sawicki, 36), an art skater (Leandro Luzzi, 33), the couple Everaldo da Rocha (53) and Janaina Moreira Soares da Rocha (46 years), and the double mother and daughter Leane Elizabeth Herrmann (70) and Leise Herrmann Parizotto (37 years). Many of the passengers were touristwith 18 from Santa Catarina, two from Rio Grande do Sul and one from São Paulo. The victims’ wakes began this Sunday (22).
Among the 13 survivors, five were sent to the Nossa Senhora de Fátima Hospital, two with second -degree burns and the others with abrasions and pain. Despite the injuries, No life riskand some have already been discharged.
