Don't forget about this procedure. It is thanks to him that cloves bloom until autumn

Cloves are usually grown in Poland as annual plants. They reach 60 cm high, although there are also dwarf varieties, growing up to 25 cm. Their characteristic feature are branched stalks with lanceolate leaves. Semi -full or full flowers have different colors, e.g. white, cream, red, yellow. They appear in May and bloom until September. However, they can be extended by flowering by fertilization.

Cloves can be grown on both discounts and scalles. Many people plant them in pots, which are then hung on terraces and balconies. In this case, let’s not forget about the drainage layer. Between potted cuttings we must keep a distance of 10 cm.

These plants prefer bright and sunny positions. It is in such a place that they bloom most abundantly. They will also manage in partial shade, but their growth may be limited. They don’t like high temperatures. They definitely prefer cool but sunny weather.

We plant cloves on limestone, sandy-glinic and fertile soils. Their pH should be indifferent or slightly alkaline. The substrate should be carefully grown, so regularly loosen and weed.

We provide moderately moist soil to these specimens. So we water them regularly, but sparingly, in hot weather every day. Avoid soaking leaves because fungal diseases may develop.

Fertilization is necessary for long and abundant flowering of cloves. Already 2 weeks after planting, we supply plants and continue this treatment until August.

In the period of intensive growth, it is recommended to use multi -component fertilizer every 4 weeks. At the beginning of July, we can replace it with a conditioner with a lot of potassium. Thanks to this mineral, new buds will be tied up.

From time to time, it is worth supplying cloves with manure, compost or humus. However, these fertilizers cannot contain too much nitrogen.

The treatment that extends the flowering of cloves is to remove faded inflorescences. We need to cut shoots above the second leaf node. We use a sharp and disinfected pruning shears for this. In autumn, we remove annual plants from the ground, while we cut the many years in half their height in order to stimulate them to grow next year.

It is also worth spraying cloves every 2 weeks, especially if we are dealing with a rainy summer. In this way, we will reduce the risk of developing fungal diseases that stop flowering.
