The increase in defense expenditure up to 5% of GDP, required by the United States and will be certified in which it is celebrated this Tuesday and Wednesday in The Hague, is an economic and industrial opportunity for the countries of the Atlantic Alliance. But, above all, it is a strategic necessity, says José Vicente de los Mozos, CEO of the Spanish multinational Indra (São Paulo, Brazil, 63 years) and one of the speakers of the forum “Europe has to continue evolving in its strategic sovereignty. And that consists in ensuring our democracy and values. It must be evolved in the capabilities, regardless of the expense percentages that are agreed. that it is important to protect your safety to protect your values.
Indra, one of the main companies in the technological sector and also in the defense and security, in the heat of the convulsive geopolitical context in which Europe plans to shoot the expense in defense and reinforce its strategic autonomy. And the company wants to play a leadership role, also in Europe, where Spain is still in the background with respect to countries such as Italy, France or Germany.
“Today the European Defense Industry is not prepared to allocate that 5%. If we want it to be autonomous we need a transition period in the coming years and evolve in the capabilities. Not all 27 [Estados miembros de la UE] They start from the same point. I think he is in the Europa League, to make the football simile. But we must continue advancing, ”he says of the young men.
The Spanish company, says its CEO, has a clear road map. And it is crucial to take advantage of the 800,000 million euros. The growth of these years and the openness to other countries, as well as the agreements signed with companies such as Thales or Leonardo, show the will to be a great European actor, they maintain in the company. The future of that European sovereignty is not an individual career and necessarily goes through community programs where Indra, says its CEO, will be present.
“The consolidation will not be done by the purchase and sale of companies, because each country wants to have its industry. It will be done through European programs where we work together on the same product, where we make the purchase synergy. And for that we need to push in the same direction,” he says.
One of the problems of this great European reindustrialization is the stigma that weighs on the military sector. Of the young men, aware of this, he prefers to talk about security industry. “Citizens must be aware of the importance of having a deterrence of deterrence. If we reinforce, we will anticipate future attacks. It is true that Spain does not have the same threats as the Baltic countries. But the world is very convulsive for different conflicts. If we want to make our own decisions we must have a deterrence of deterrence from which we lack today,” he continues.
In Indra it is committed to clearly explain the change of paradigm. Find a direct message, also with the new generations. “If we want to maintain the conditions in which we live, it is important to preserve our values,” he insists on the young men. A strategy that, at the productive level, will be based on defense vehicles, one of the lacks of Spain. “But also the anti -Didish systems. And in addition, we must develop our missiles: we cannot depend on companies outside the EU,” Zanja.
