Moscow is in favor of a truce between Israel and Iran, but it is difficult to say if it will last, the Russian Foreign Minister said after the US’s announcement of a ceasefire between the two countries.
“It is very difficult to draw definitive conclusions right now or to have a clear picture,” Lavrov said in her first reaction to the ceasefire agreement announced by Donald Trump’s president.
“There are reports that the Americans persuaded Israel to agree on and move on to unlimited truce, while our Qatar friends allegedly played a similar role to Tehran,” he said.
“But after the announcement, there was information on blows and exchanging fires between Israel and Iran. Therefore, let’s not rush to draw conclusions based on fragmentary information. “
Russia, which has signed an agreement with a strategic cooperation with Iran in January, has condemned Israel and US attacks on Iran as illegal and unexpected. Iran has responded by affecting Israeli cities and targeting US military base in Qatar.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that he had accepted Trump’s proposal for a truce.
