The Duma of the State or Chamber of Deputies of Russia has approved on Tuesday a bill that allows people without citizenship to serve by contract in the ranks of the country’s armed forces.
Legislative innovation, which must be approved by the Council of the Federation or Senate before its promulgation by the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, is an amendment to the Military Service Law.
The bill, as stated in its preamble, seeks to “expand the circle of persons who can provide contract for contract,” the agency said.
Since 2010, Russia allows the incorporation under the contract of foreigners in the ranks of their armed forces.
In the beginning, the regulations established that any foreigner between 18 and 30 with a domain of the Russian language and without a criminal record could sign a five -year contract and after three years of service could obtain Russian citizenship.
A June 2023, fifteen months after the beginning of the war in Ukraine, an amendment was approved that allowed foreigners to obtain Russian citizenship after a year of service in the army in the area of military actions in the neighboring country.
