What do individual states think about increasing defense investments? European survey revealed different attitudes.

Reactions to the planned increase in defense expenditure within NATO vary. The survey shows the greatest support in Poland and Denmark, while disagreement prevails in Italy.

The planned increase in the defense of the North Atlantic Alliance States has triggered various reactions in Member States. A survey by the European Foreign Council (ECFR) implies that it has the greatest support in Poles or Danes, the lowest in Italy. This is reported to TASR according to Monday’s DPA report.

The survey shows that the increase in defense spending is supported by 70 percent of Poles and Danes, 57 percent of British, 56 percent of Estonians, 54 percent of Portuguese or 47 percent of Germans.

On the other hand, in Italy, according to the survey, 57 percent of respondents do not agree with the increase in defense expenses and only 17 percent of respondents agree.

As part of the survey, the ECFR conducted interviews with more than 1000 people in each country from mid -country. Public opinion poll was conducted by the Institutes of Norstat, Yougov and Datapraxis.

The survey also addressed the issue of re -education of compulsory military service. This was supported by 62 percent of respondents in France, 53 percent in Poland, 51 percent in Poland, and 37 percent in Spain and Britain. In countries with the mandatory Military Service of ECFR, it did not investigate the public attitudes.
