Annual Society of Family Planning report shows an increase in procedures with remote help from health professionals

SFP (Society of Family Planning) report released on Monday (23.Jun.2025) shows that the number of miscarriages in the United States totaled 1.14 million in 2024.

The report of the non -profit organization reveals an increase in procedures via telemedicine – when the health professional follows the administration of the medicine at a distance.

The increase in abortions via telemedicine was registered from 2022, when the Supreme Court overturned the order guaranteed the right to interruption of pregnancy. Since then, the prohibition or not of the procedure has been in the hands of the states.

At the end of 2024, 25% of the procedures were done by this modality, compared to only 5% registered in the 2nd quarter of 2022.

The study indicates that half of abortions via telemedicine in 2024 were made possible through armor laws, which give legal certainty to health professionals.

The monthly average of abortions, in general, has increased since 2022.
