Many people are looking for a natural alternative to classic herbicides and white vinegar are among the most recommended. It contains acetic acid that acts as a so -called contact herbicide. This means that it only hits those parts of the plant that will be touched directly. Leaves and young shoots dry after application, but the roots remain alive. Nevertheless, vinegar can be very effective when used correctly, especially for young weeds. And all without unnecessary chemistry.

Home spraying of white vinegar can be prepared simply at home. Mix one liter of white vinegar, one tablespoon of liquid dishes and if you want to increase the effect, add a cup of kitchen salt. Salt increases the efficiency of the solution and the detergent helps to adhere to the leaves better. Mix everything and pour into a sprayer or garden sprayer.

Use the solution on a sunny and dry day, ideally around noon, when the sun shines fully. Heat and direct sunlight will speed up the drying of plants. Young weed at 2-4 leaves is the ideal goal. In older or deep -rooted plants, however, it is heavier because the vinegar does not penetrate the root system and weeds can return.

He does not choose vinegar. So he burns anything green to touch. Be careful not to hit your ornamental plants or lawn. The best use is in places where no other plants do not grow: joints between tiles, margins of driveways or gravel areas. Always apply the mixture precisely, for example with a brush or a small hand sprayer to prevent damage.

What to expect and what to expect

Vinegar plants burn quickly. The first signs of wilting can be seen in a few hours, but the full death of the leaves usually takes up to two a day. However, the roots remain intact, so weeds can return over time. Regular applications are therefore a necessity. At the same time, the vinegar leaves no remnants in the soil, which is an ecological advantage, but also the reason why it does not prevent new seeds in germination.

Vinegar with a higher concentration of acetic acid, which is sold as a garden herbicide (20–30 %), is more effective, but also more dangerous. It can stick the skin and eyes. If you reach for it, wear protective glasses and gloves. Ordinary kitchen vinegar is safer, but requires more patience and repeated use.

White vinegar is therefore a fast, cheap and available means to get rid of small weeds on the pavement or in gravel. It is not a perfect solution, but if you are interested in a natural approach without chemistry, it can become a great ally. For a more permanent result, combine vinegar with other methods such as mulching, dense planting of the garden or so -called solar sterilization of soil. Fighting with weeds is a long -distance run, but with a little patience and the right tools you can handle without chemical spraying.
