NATO head clarifies comments about Trump: “I didn’t call Dad”

NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), Mark Rutte, clarified the comments made to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, during the Alliance Summit on Wednesday (25).

Earlier, at a news conference, intervening in a school courtyard fight, after Trump repeatedly scolded Israel and Iran this week.

“They had an ugly fight, like two children in the school courtyard. You know, they fight a lot, you can’t stop them. Let them fight for about 2 or 3 minutes, then it’s easy to stop them,” Trump said.

Rutte explained that he used the word “daddy” because sometimes he hears leaders from European countries wondering if the US will remain at NATO.

“Dad’s Dad, I didn’t call him (Donald Trump) from Dad, what I said is that sometimes, in Europe, I hear countries saying, ‘Hey, Mark, the US will be with us?’ And I said, it sounds a little like a small child asking his father: ‘Hey, you’ll still stay with the family?’

At the summit, NATO leaders committed to the expressive and reaffirmed the commitment of mutual defense.

In the interview, Rutte He said the increase in defense spending was “feasible” for NATO European members, who, he said, were among the richest countries in the world.
