Neymar, 33, announced on Tuesday (24) the renewal of his contract with Santos. The player’s new bond lasts until the end of this year, with the possibility of extension until the 2026 World Cup.
According to the UOL portal, the contract has a renewal clause to the World Cup according to a number of games and goals achieved by the athlete.
Initially, the idea was to close an agreement for another year, but the parties agreed to renew for another six months. Thus, in the next transfer window, Neymar will again have freedom to decide his future in the lawns.
Also according to the portal, the contract will have a fixed salary, but this time without a goal of marketing agreements. Santos will no longer explore from forming an individual image rights of Neymar. In addition, the debt that the team has with the athlete, of about R $ 85 million, should be paid in installments by December 2026.
“I made a decision and heard my heart. Santos is not just my team, it is my home,” said the player in a video released by the club. “This is where I want to realize the missing dreams for my career.”
Neymar returned to Santos earlier this year after a frustrating passage through Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal. In a year in the Saudi club, he played only seven games and suffered the most serious injury to his career.
