The bet of pockets to accelerate the application of possible sanctions against Supreme Federal Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes seems to have not had the desired effect.
A hearing of the Human Rights Commission of the House of Representatives of the United States, held on Tuesday, 24, with the participation of blogger Paulo Figueiredo, ended in clash with Deputy Democrat James P. McGovern.
During his final considerations, Figueiredo stated that he was safe as a journalist in the United States and described the country as “the free in the world.”

In response, McGovern mocked: “I’m glad you feel safe as a journalist in the United States. I, as a politician, I’m not sure to feel so safe, but that’s the reality.” Figueiredo replied, wondering if the country would have “political prisoners.”
McGovern replied mentioning the attack on President Donald Trump’s opponents and said: “You just saw a senator be knocked down on the floor and handcuffed.
We also saw people being targets of political murder in this country, ”in reference to former state mayor Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, shot dead in Brooklyn Park.

Figueiredo concluded by saying that the congressman would be “welcome to Brazil to see how worse there”. McGovern countered: “I am trying to save our democracy [norte-americana]”.
In his X profile, Paulo Figueiredo published a photo of the audience and wrote: “Big Day.”
During the hearing, Figueiredo mentioned the statement of Senator Marco Rubio who, at a hearing in the House, stated that “there is a great possibility” of Moraes being the subject of sanctions based on magnitsky law, and demanded urgency in the decision, stating that if this does not happen soon, Brazil will be in the “point of no return”.

He also cited the cases of licensed deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL) and Deputy Carla Zambelli (PL) as targets of political persecution in the country, stating that Zambelli was in the United States for a “medical treatment” and Eduardo feared a prison in Brazil. Figueiredo also mentioned Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovsky, and Elon Musk as victims of Moraes.
Paulo Figueiredo and Eduardo Bolsonaro work together in the search for sanctions against the STF minister. Internally, however, Bolsonarists evaluate that the federal deputy has not been able to obtain concrete results so far.
Congressman Chris Smith of the Republican Party, who chairs the committee alongside McGovern, failed to attend the hearing.

He sent a letter to Moraes in May this year, stating that “serious violations” were found against human rights by the Brazilian government.
Eduardo Bolsonaro also shared Paulo Figueiredo’s photo, stating that “measures can be taken after the statement of the declarants.”
