PJ inspector will have helped Adriano Quintanilha in the case of W52-FC Porto

W52 cycling team in the return to Portugal

The Public Prosecution Service (MP) accused an inspector of the Judicial Police (PJ) and Adriano Quintanilha, boss of the former W52-FC Porto, of creating a plan so that the entrepreneur was not incriminated in the cycling team’s doping scheme.

The prosecution of the MP, to which Lusa agency had access this Wednesday, maintains that Adriano Quintanilha and the PJ inspector “decided to create” a fake code of conduct.

The goal was to attest that Quintanilha and the Várzea Calvary Association, which was the origin of W52-FC Porto and of which they were president, were unaware of the doping scheme in investigation in the clean proof process.

The document was later given to cyclists and then sports director, Nuno Ribeiroto sign, with the objective of distancing Adriano Quintanilha and the association “of the then indicted conduct of the sports director of the team and its cyclists”.

Source of the Judicial Police indicated to Lusa that the inquiry originated in a complaint presented by PJ itself.

The investigation emerges following the searches conducted in April 2022, within the scope of.

“The defendant Adriano Sousa [Quintanilha)]alarmed with the criminal and disciplinary consequences that those conducts would have for themselves and the association their represented, decided to outline a plan that aimed to exempt itthemselves and the association, of any eventual responsibility of the facts under investigation in that process, ”says the prosecution.

PJ had a “attachment to the team”

According to the MP, the 72 -year -old businessman then contacted “his friend, who knew he was an inspector of the Judicial Police, to perform duties in the North Board, and who knew how to share with him the same Feeling of attachment to the W52-FC Porto team and cycling”.

The 56 -year -old PJ inspector, “aware of the defendant’s intended, decided to create and execute a plan that would allow to reach the aimed purposes” by his friend.

In this sense, the two defendants “decided to create a document aimed at attesting that Adriano Quintanilha and the association” were unaware of the practices that were under investigation “in the process clean proof” and that therefore no criminal, offense or disciplinary responsibility could be harassed. “

Thus, “in the realization of the outlined plan and with the purpose of decreasing the negative repercussions of the existence of the process” to the Association and to Adriano Quintanilha, the two defendants “decided to create a code of conduct before April 2022”, made in Operation Clean Proof.

“The two defendants also decided, who would, in particular, constitute clauses whose content attest to that any behavior of the sports director and cyclists who was violating anti -doping rules would have been taken to the default, contraindication and with the full ignorance of the association and, consequently, of its president, the defendant Adriano Sousa,” the MP.

In possession of the document, dated January 2022, the two defendants, “always in communion of intent, they decided to deliver it to the sports directorNuno Ribeiro, and the team cyclists, in particular those who had been aimed at the search, so that they would sign it, well knowing that the date bet on the document did not correspond to the date of preparation and signing of that document ”.

According to the MP, to convince Nuno Ribeiro and the cyclists to sign the document, Adriano Quintanilha claimed that “they would be protecting the cycling team, their participation as cyclists from W52-FC Porto and their work.”

The accusation says that one of the cyclists only signed the document because it was threatened by Quintanilha that he would not receive the salary.

Calvary Várzea, Adriano Quintanilha and the PJ inspector are accused of falsifying document. Quintanilha is also accused of coercion, while the inspector is also accused of personal favoritism.

The process is in the instruction, the optional phase required by the defendants.
