Collective mandates of the City Hall of São Paulo and Alesp (São Paulo Legislative Assembly) sent a letter to the UN (United Nations) to denounce the increase in deaths of children and adolescents by police lethality in the state.

The document, signed by deputies and councilors of the feminist bench in both legislative houses, cites a report by UNICEF, in partnership with the Brazilian Public Security Forum, indicating that between 2022 and 2024, there was a 120% increase in youth deaths from 10 to 19 years due to police intervention.

In addition, the text also points to 153.5% increase in deaths committed by military police officers in service in the same period. Deaths are treated as “summary, arbitrary and extrajudicial executions” by the psolists.

“Indexes point out that this growing causes the flexibility in the use of body cameras and the absence of control of police forces,” the benches claim in a statement.

In the text, the benches, represented by Deputy Paula Nunes and Councilwoman Silvia Ferraro, ask for assurance of assistance and repair to the families of victimized children and that they can follow the investigations.

Also signing the office the entities PEREGUM, Black People’s Front, Mothers of May and Adelinas.
