There is at least one death related to the strike of INEM in November last year. Igas concluded that a 53 man, who suffered a myocardial infarction, could have survived if help had arrived in time.
A death of a 53 -year -old man from Pombal (Leiria), in November 2024, when the INEM strike was taken, it could have been avoided if it had been rescued at a minimum and reasonable time.
The news was advanced by and confirmed by a statement from Igas sent to Lusa, which reported that he had filed two other inquiries.
“It was concluded that the death of the user could have been avoided if there had been a help, at a reasonable minimum time, that it made possible the evacuation of the victim through a coronary green way to one of the nearest hospitals, where he could undergo coronary angioplasty in one of the respective hemodynamic units,” said the general inspection of health activities (Igas) in a statement.
The case dates back to, by simultaneously, two strikes-one of the prehospital emergency technicians to the overtime and one of the public administration.
Igas opened inquiries to investigate Possible relationship between 12 deaths and the alleged Care delays Cod – Urgent Patient Orientation Center – of INEM.
According to the statement, the inquiry in question referred to the death of a 53-year-old man in the municipality of Pombal and the report with the conclusions was sent to the Public Prosecution Service, the Attorney’s Office of the District of Leira, to the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action-Pombal Section for knowledge.
It was also sent to INEM, so that the Board of Directors decide on the establishment of a disciplinary procedure to a pre-hospital emergency technique (TEPH) evidence of the practice of infringement in the provision of relief to the victimbut also on the maintenance of services to a doctor, for the “severity of the facts practiced in the provision of relief to the victim”, and the changes that it considers necessary for the functioning of the Emergency Medical Integrated System (SIEM).
The conclusions also went to the victim’s spouse and the health minister’s office for knowledge, as well as the local health unit of the Leiria region.
Archived surveys related to two other deaths are cases where a causal relationship was not determined with the delay in the response of the emergency medical.
As the Expresso reports, these episodes took place in the Algarve, with an 77 -year -old man, and in Alentejo, with an 86 -year -old woman. Both had pathologies of the circulatory forum.
