This is a real vitamin bomb, which also tastes great. What is the health properties, how does it taste and how to grow it?

Kamchatka berry supports immunity, has an antibacterial effect, strengthens the heart and sight. It also helps with bladder infections and improves brain work. Kamchatka berry fruits also have detoxifying properties.

Kamchatka berry, what to use it for?

Kamchatka berry in taste resembles American blueberry, but it is a bit more sour with it with a subtle hint of bitterness. It is also worth remembering that ripe fruit is sweet and the acidity is almost imperceptible. In the season, Kamchatie berries are worth eating raw. They can be added to yogurt, porridge and ice cream. Kamchatka berry is great in various types of tinctures, cakes, juices and jam.

Kamchatka berry and American blueberry – differences

Shape and size is the basic difference between fruit. Kamchatka berry is slightly larger than American blueberries and has an oblong shape. As we wrote above, the differences are also felt in taste. Kamchatka berry is more expressive. When it comes to health properties, they are similar, although Kamchatka berry contains much more anthocyanins, which are strong antioxidants. It also has more vitamins C and E, as well as fiber, folic acid and minerals such as iron, calcium and potassium. In addition, Kamchatka berry is more resistant to frost.

Kamchatka berry – cultivation

Kamchatka berry, or Kamchatka honeysuckle, is a little demanding bush. It is best to plant it from September to mid -November. Kamchatka berry is resistant to frost and pests. It grows well in soil with acidity from pH 4.5 to 6.5. Too sour soil does not serve it (the leaves pale and fall, it fruits less). The best will be a sunny position for her, but sheltered from the wind, but it will also work. The shrub also likes moisture, so during hot and dry summer you have to water it. However, it should also be remembered that the Kamchatka berry tolerates water stasis and high groundwater levels badly.
