In shock with the government after guiding the vote on the proposal that suspends the increase in the tax on financial operations (IOF), the mayor, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), praised the federation formed between solidarity and PRD, parties that distanced themselves from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. According to Motta, it is time to look at next year’s elections.
– This federation comes to magnify the national debate, so that we can face the country’s problems wisely. This federation is already born very strong. We need to discuss what we want for the country, already glimpsing next year’s elections – said in a statement.
Governors said they were taken by surprise with Motta’s decision to bring the project that suspends the increase in IOF to the plenary. If the proposal is approved by the House, it may be voted by the Senate later this Wednesday, which can become another defeat to the government.
With ten deputies, federation leaders preach a distancing discourse in relation to the petista, whose coalition had solidarity in 2022, and evaluate support the presidential pre-candidacy of the governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil).
“The time is to discuss the topics that the country needs and make the deliveries the population expects,” Motta added.
Although it has positions in the federal government, solidarity has been moving away from Lula since the beginning of the year. Federal Deputy Paulinho da Força (Solidarity-SP), president of the acronym, criticized the government’s performance in the case of fraud in the INSS and signed the request for the installation of a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on the subject. According to Paulinho, his party “today already acts against the government” in the House.
