Israel would have killed Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, if this were possible during the 12-day war between the two countries, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Thursday.
“I estimate that if Khamenei was in our sights, we would have eliminated him,” Katz said in an interview with Israel’s public television.
“But Khamenei understood that, went underground to great depths and interrupted contacts with the commanders who replaced the commanders who were eliminated,” he said.

Israel killed several of the main Iranian commanders and nuclear scientists on June 13 at the beginning of the war.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump suggested at various times during the Air War that Khamenei’s life could be in danger, as the change in regime could be the result of the war that ended a US mediated ceasefire on Tuesday.
