Brazilian tennis player João Fonseca was eliminated on Thursday (26) by the American Taylor Fritz in the second round of the ATP 250 of Eastbourne, England, in a game that had to be postponed the day before lack of natural light.

The match was the last of the programming on the central court of the grass tournament on Wednesday (25) and had to be paralyzed after Fonseca’s victory at Tie-Break on the second set because of the lack of natural light. Current champion, Fritz had won the first set 6-3.

In the resumption of the match, on Thursday, the US tennis player, current number 5 of the ranking, returned better and used powerful withdrawals to close the partial against the Brazilian (57th in the world) 7 to 5, in two hours and two minutes of play.

Record holder of the tournament titles, with three achievements (2019, 2022 and 2024), Fritz returns to the courts later this Thursday for the quarterfinals, against compatriot Marcos Giron (46th).

Already Fonseca, who had reached his first grass victory in an ATP level tournament, now goes to the Wimbledon Grand Slam dispute, which starts next Monday (30).
