Olympia, promoted annually by the International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness (IFBB) since 1965, is the main sports championship throughout the planet. Until 1980, only men competed. Like those who won the competition were called ‘Mister Olympia’, the tournament champions began to receive the title of ‘Miss Olympia’.
Currently, the championship in question has six female categories: Bikini (women who visibly practice bodybuilding, but who have no very high muscle volume), Wellness (athletes with lower limbs more developed than the upper limbs and, overall, have a little more muscle volume than the previous division), figure (in this category, the muscle separation presented by the bodybuilders must be higher. Required disproportion is a superior trunk), fitness (the physique standard requested is similar to figure. However, it is decided, mostly, by presentations, which resemble some modalities of artistic gymnastics), Women’s Physique (athletes with muscle volume of a figure in the upper limbs and a wellness in the lower limbs. It is also essential) and Women’s Bodybuilding (no weight limit category, where bodybuilders with the highest muscle volume are found).

The list in question may appear inconsistencies for not presenting the champions from 2015 to 2019, as well as pointing two names such as Miss Olympia of 2000. However, the female category has not followed a standard as consistent as male throughout history.
In the 2000 Olympia, the first division was introduced in the female categories: heavy weight (over 61 kg) and lightweight (up to 61 kg). In this year’s edition, there was no dispute between the champions, usually called “Overall”, and both winners got the Miss Olympia post.
After the 2014 Olympia, the Women’s Bodybuilding category was suspended. The tournament only re -featuring this division in 2020.
Before there were different categories in bodybuilding, the whole sport followed the rules of what Women’s Bodybuilding is today, and all Olympia champions were considered Miss Olympia’s. However, this title only applies to super-heavy winners today.
That is, athletes such as Francielle Mattos, Isa Pecini and Natalia Coelho, who beat Olympia in the Wellness, Bikini and Women’s Physique categories, respectively, were never officially Miss Olympia.
